Samsara isn’t just a platform – it’s a game-changer for fleets looking to improve safety, reduce costs, and achieve operational excellence. Whether it’s in-cab alerts or instant access to key data, every Samsara function, app, or solution is designed to solve real-world problems.

With so many features to choose from – and more being added all the time – we decided to ask our customers which were their favourites. Here’s their top five:

AI-powered event detection

Safety is one of the stand-out reasons why companies invest in Samsara. When it comes to running a successful operation, fleet managers know that good safety is good business. Dual-facing dash cams – powered by artificial intelligence (AI) – can spot signs such as drowsiness and distraction before alerting drivers to keep their eyes focused on the road or to take breaks.

At Delifresh – which offers next-day food and produce delivery to the hospitality industry and the events trade – managers saw marked improvements in driving as well as dramatic reductions in accidents within weeks of installing the technology.

“Samsara drowsiness detection gives us, our drivers, and the general public peace of mind that the risk of our vehicles on the road is significantly reduced,” said Andrew Sharp, Transport Shift Manager, Delifresh.

Safety Inbox and event review

But AI dash cams are only part of the story. Thanks to Samsara’s connected operations platform, all the alerts, warnings, and footage of incidents are sent in real time via the cloud to the central dashboard.

Instead of waiting to manually upload safety events like crashes or harsh braking, the system automatically uploads them to the Safety Inbox.

[My] favourite feature is the Safety Inbox,” said Paul Duncalf, Safety, Training and Fleet Compliance Director at food distribution company Sysco GB. “It's two clicks to get to what you need to get to. And as an ex-fleet manager on the front line, that's what I want.”

And he’s not alone.

“The quicker we can access vehicle footage, the sooner we can investigate an incident and accurately report it to our insurers,” explained Olivia Fagan, Compliance Officer, logistics firm Fagan & Whalley. “This has greatly improved our efficiency in dealing with incidents and taking the relevant actions.”

Driver coaching

What’s more, all this data is fed into a bespoke coaching programme to provide real examples to improve driver training. Providing actual footage from real safety events can help pinpoint driving habits and coach drivers with relevant context.

“Samsara has hugely impacted safety practices,” said Antony Draper, Director of SHEQ, at tool and equipment hire company, Brandon Hire Station. “The in-cab coaching model given to drivers as they’re undertaking their duties has led to dramatic reductions in mobile phone usage, distracted driving, seat belt infringements, and speeding.”

Not only is it transforming how teams support their drivers, it’s creating a continuous cycle of learning by turning every potential road incident into an opportunity for improvement.

Fuel and Energy Hub

Clearly, safety is a number one priority. But so too is keeping a lid on costs. That’s why – aside from Samsara’s safety features – fleet managers value the insights created by the Fuel and Energy Hub. This continually updated app gives them total sight of their operation – everything from individual vehicle performance to driver efficiency scores and idling trends.

Not only does it mean they’re able to identify fuel-wasting habits early, it also enables them to spot vehicles that need attention – and all from one simple display.

For Rob Phelps, Fleet & Plant Operations Manager at Vinci Construction UK, being able to see all this data via a single pane of glass is a real eye-opener.

“Samsara helps control fuel costs by allowing you to see individual vehicles’ fuel usage very clearly – and enabling you to pinpoint any areas that need to be looked at,” he said.

Diagnostics and reporting

And it’s not just fuel efficiency that’s important. Running a successful and efficient fleet means making sure vehicles are maintained properly – and promptly. Real-time diagnostics show exactly what’s happening under the hood, helping catch issues before they cause problems. With smart scheduling and automated service reminders, Samsara’s connected platform helps fleet managers the edge.

For Edward Breedveld, Chief Digital Officer at Fraikin Group – the largest full-service operation lease company in Europe – it’s a feature that is a critical part of the solution it provides its customers.

“With this technology, we are greatly expanding our real-time data insights to optimise operations, minimise environmental impact, and ensure our vehicles meet the highest safety standards,” he said.

“We have to make sure we conduct maintenance in the right way to understand what’s going on with our vehicles, and that’s where Samsara comes in – ensuring we have more predictive and preventative maintenance options,” he said.

Thanks to Samsara’s connected operations platform, fleet operators are unlocking new levels of efficiency, safety, and insight. These are some of their favourite features. What’s yours?
