Leaders from across the world of physical operations gathered in London this week to hear how cutting-edge technology is transforming the way businesses manage assets, reduce risks, and drive efficiency in critical sectors like transportation, utilities, and infrastructure.
Gathering at Go Beyond – a one-day conference held in London attracting customers from across the UK and Europe – Samsara revealed a number of new products and updates that are set to shake up the industry.
Opening the conference Samsara CEO and Co-founder, Sanjit Biswas, explained how many of the innovations – everything from low bridge strike alerts to new training features – were developed following direct feedback from customers.
"Our partnership – blending customer feedback with technical innovation – is how we built our first products, and this collaboration is stronger than ever,” he said.
He highlighted three of the challenges currently facing the industry and the role technology can play in addressing them.
The cost of energy and fuel is higher than ever.
The move to electric vehicles and managing the logistics of charging infrastructure.
Managing risk, lowering insurance costs, and building strong safety cultures.
“These are real challenges, and our goal is to address them through our Connected Operations platform, uniting all of your data to provide valuable insights so you can take action," he said.
He showcased three firms from the UK and Ireland and the impact technology and innovation had made on their operations.
FM Conway, he said, saw an “80% reduction in speeding incidents using our safety coaching program, helping reduce accident risk" while electricals retailer, AO, “saved millions of pounds by reducing insurance costs and fuel consumption through our solutions."
Midland Tyre – a recent Samsara award winner based in Ireland – “reduced road accidents by 54% over two years… showcasing the results achievable with our platform."
And yet, these achievements only scratch the surface, said Sanjit.
"Across our global footprint, Samsara has helped prevent over 200,000 crashes, saved people time through digitised workflows, and reduced CO2 emissions by over three billion pounds. These numbers reflect our shared impact on the world," he said.
Sanjit was joined on stage by Gurinder Dhillon, CEO and Founder of Otto Car, Europe’s largest provider of private hire vehicles.
Not only does the business operate a fleet of 4,500 electric vehicles as part of its commitment to improving air quality, it is also a champion for safety.
"Telematics alone isn’t enough – it lacks context,” said Gurinder. “With video, we can coach drivers, helping them understand their own mistakes and improve. This approach, combined with Samsara’s insights, helps us identify and coach risk-prone drivers, ensuring our fleet's safety."
And with an eye to the future, he also explained how the business was using the data it has gathered to drive innovation.
"We’re using vision data from our fleet for autonomous vehicle research and developing solutions to coach drivers for improved safety. It’s rewarding to work with Samsara, solving real-world problems with technology and creating a safer, more sustainable fleet," he said.
Sanjit left it to Chief Product Officer, Kiren Sekar, to go into detail on including a new AI-powered solution to prevent drivers from nodding off behind the wheel.
"Our new drowsy driving detection system, deployed earlier this year, looks at the totality of drivers' behaviours – like blank stares, eye rubbing, and nodding. It predicts when they're becoming dangerously fatigued and provides alerts in the cab, and if necessary, to the safety manager," he said.
Drawing the keynote to a close, Sanjit told the audience: "Keeping the world running is tough work. Your teams are out there every day, from the hottest summers to the coldest winters, managing thousands of people and assets across continents to deliver what the world needs.
“At Samsara, we want to help you work smarter, connecting your data, equipment, and sites onto a single platform, and use AI to share the insights that matter most," he said.
