We build technology that keeps people safe. We do this by using data-driven decisions to quickly act with increased operational visibility to monitor real-time conditions and easily identify areas of risk though consolidated safey data in one dashboard.

Video-based safety solutions

Our safety solutions allow customers to view, analyze, and archive videos. We utilize proprietary AI embedded in our IoT dash cams to detect safety events in real time. By detecting risky behaviors like distracted driving, harsh braking, or tailgating, our system can alert drivers with in-cab audio alerts while video is stored in the cloud to provide personalized driver coaching. In addition, our Site Visibility application can identify unusual activity or workplace hazards.

Operating sustainably

At Samsara, we’re committed to building a more sustainable future. Since our first carbon footprint measurements, we have continued our commitment to remain carbon neutral, including in our global office buildings and the hardware we deliver to customers. Samsara’s long-term goal is to reach net zero for our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 2040. Our path to net zero includes reducing all of our greenhouse gas emissions to as close as zero as possible, with any remaining emissions to be addressed through carbon removal. To achieve this goal, we have committed to implementing near- and long-term company-wide emission reductions in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Samsara Headquarters

Sustainable headquarters

Our headquarters at 1 De Haro street is the first cross-laminated timber (CLT) building in San Francisco. CLT structural panels offer dimensional stability that’s superior to conventional framing, with a significantly smaller carbon footprint. Spanning four floors, our workspace includes onsite ENERGY STAR certified electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), a designated bicycle storage facility, and a Renewable Energy Generation System with a rooftop solar panel system.

Samsara partnered with CleanPowerSF to power our headquarters with 100% renewable energy. By switching completely to renewable energy, we’re proud to invest in our community by supporting clean energy infrastructure and green jobs. 

Building a sustainable hardware supply chain.

We continue to gather sustainability data from our top suppliers to ensure that we are building a resilient and sustainable supply chain. Our top 3 partners have all made SBTi commitments and are currently disclosing to the CDP. Our top 10 suppliers are all International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 certified.

Over the last year, we’ve made improvements to help us build products more sustainably, including: 

Recycle

Using recycled materials in our products

We successfully tested and qualified 50% post-consumer resin (PCR) for some of our parts in our Vehicle Gateway to reduce our reliance on plastic. We plan on expanding our access and use of recycled materials in future hardware programs.

Decreasing single use plastics

Decreasing use of single-use plastics

On our Vehicle Gateway product, we removed our single-use plastic bag in the packaging and reduced our reliance on plastic.

Manufacturing with renewable energy

Manufacturing with renewable energy

We made commitments to partner with manufacturing facilities that are powered by partial renewable energy. We plan to continue to find ways to expand renewable energy use across manufacturing facilities we work with.

Move to zero waste in manufacturing

Move to zero waste in manufacturing

We engaged a new manufacturing facility partner that received a zero-waste certification. We will continue to qualify other factories and products to be manufactured at zero-waste facilities.

Carbon accounting

Carbon accounting

We are beginning to refine our carbon accounting practices and are developing full life cycle assessments of our hardware products and packaging. This will allow us to further understand which part of the supply chain is generating the most carbon.

Shift to ocean freight

Shift to ocean freight

To reduce our carbon footprint, we continue to shift away from air shipments as a primary form of transportation for our devices, focusing on sea transport. In our last fiscal year, we improved our annual average sea shipment rate by 41%. By the last quarter of our last fiscal year, we increased our ocean shipment volume with a sea shipment rate of 78% of total units shipped.
