Aeroport Taxi & Limousine Services manages a large fleet of taxicabs and limousines across Ontario, Canada. Managing liability across more than 3,000 vehicles and 3,000 drivers is an important consideration for their line of business, and safety has a significant impact on their insurance costs.
Prior to Samsara, Aeroport’s old dash cam vendor had limitations that didn’t meet their needs. Footage was automatically overwritten after the dash cam’s memory card reached capacity, which made it difficult to investigate incidents and refute false claims. Without in-cab alerts, they couldn’t coach drivers on the road in real time, which meant they could only coach drivers after an incident had already occured.

Aeroport overhauled their safety program with Samsara’s video-based safety solution. Drivers in Aeroport's Fleet Program are assigned vehicles with Samsara AI Dash Cams installed. Reliable, on-demand video retrieval enables Aeroport to investigate incidents with ease, helping protect drivers from false claims. In addition, the extended visibility in the cloud allows Aeroport to coach drivers using video-based coaching.
Aeroport's complex operations mean they not only need to be on high-alert for on-the-road hazards, but also customer-related incidents that occur inside the cab. Before, the back office team would need to manually scrub through hours of video to find key footage. Now, Samsara auto-uploads incident footage to the cloud and offers easy video retrieval, enabling Aeroport to quickly refute false claims and exonerate innocent drivers.
Samsara’s cloud-based video retrieval enables Aeroport to easily and quickly retrieve footage for important events. Aeroport won’t need to handle clunky, antiquated memory cards anymore, since video data is uploaded to the cloud within a few minutes. “The cloud connectivity aspect of the AI Dash Cams was one of the main reasons we chose Samsara,” says Khairallah. “The footage may be overwritten if we were using a typical memory card. We don’t have that problem anymore now that video is automatically captured and uploaded to the cloud.”
Preventative, In-Cab Alerts help drivers self-correct risky behaviors and have become the cornerstone of Aeroport’s proactive safety program. Given how frequently drivers are on the road, identifying risk and alerting drivers to behaviors such as tailgating and inattentive driving is important. Using In-Cab Alerts, they are able to coach their drivers on risky behaviors and help prevent incidents in real time. “AI In-Cab Alerts provide drivers with feedback on the road in real time,” says Nader Khairallah. “This helped us prevent incidents and improve driver behavior.”
Video-based safety solution reduces incidents and improves back-office efficiency
Six months after implementing Samsara, Aeroport has already experienced tremendous safety improvements across their fleet. By coaching drivers proactively with in-cab alerts, Aeroport was able to significantly reduce incidents. In addition, the ability to easily retrieve footage via the cloud has enabled Aeroport to improve back-office efficiency, saving 30+ minutes per incident resolution.
Building a culture of safety throughout the company is certainly impressive, but perhaps more so is managing it at scale across thousands of vehicles. For Khairallah, having comprehensive safety protocols in place is beneficial to not only the business, but also to the drivers themselves, both on and off the road. “Not only does Samsara help our drivers stay aware of the road, it also keeps them safe from some of the incidents that happen inside the vehicle too,” said Khairallah. “That has been great for us and our drivers.”
