Samsara and Katalii Partner to Enhance Safety and Sustainability Across Berto Group

“Together, we're going further: thanks to Samsara's innovative tools and the change management provided by Katalii, this strategic partnership is producing tangible results on the ground." Gregory Moll, IE Project Manager, Katalii.

Standout Benefits

  • 15% drop in number of accidents

  • 18% reduction in annual insurance premiums

  • Average fuel consumption reduced by 1.3 l/100km

A family group specialising in distribution and logistics solutions

The Berto Group, founded in 1963 in Avignon and run by the third generation of the Berto family, is a national leader in the transport sector, which has always been able to innovate to meet the needs of its customers and create new services, while focusing on the energy transition and sustainability.

The Berto Group relies on its subsidiary Katalii, specialising in consultancy, digital solutions and training, to act as a strategic partner, guaranteeing concrete, measurable results on the ground. Backed by its expertise, Katalii provides support at every stage of the project to ensure a smooth transition towards sustainable and responsible transport.

With over sixty years' experience, Group Berto now stands out for its comprehensive range of solutions, particularly in the fields of industrial vehicle rental with or without drivers, multimodal transport, event logistics, transport chartering and equipment rental.

“In order to deliver ever greater value to our customers, we were looking for a comprehensive solution that would enable us to optimise the management of our operations, enhance safety and reduce our carbon footprint”, comments Gregory Moll, Chef de projet IE chez Katalii. “We knew that Samsara offered the most advanced technology in terms of telematics and on-board cameras, and so we decided to carry out a large-scale test in one of our subsidiaries for a whole year”.

Reducing accidents and protecting drivers

The adventure begins! An initial free trial was enough to convince the group: the combination of Samsara solutions and Katalii support was a success. The Berto Group is therefore moving up a gear, with the deployment of tools on a complete fleet for a 12-month test on 180 vehicles.

“Our primary objective was to reduce the number of road accidents. The safety of our drivers is an absolute priority, and we monitor these indicators very closely. At the end of the test year, which ended in April 2024, the results were particularly convincing: we noted a 15% drop in the number of accidents and a 3% reduction in the frequency of at-fault accidents.”, says  Lionel Becquet, Responsable HSE, Groupe Berto.

The deployment of on-board cameras was carried out in consultation with the company's works council, in a spirit of total transparency regarding the scope of use of the video images. Supported by Katalii, this educational approach served to highlight the main objective: above all, to reinforce driver protection and acceptance of the project.

“Our drivers understand that the cameras are there to protect them in the event of an accident that is not their fault”, adds Lionel Becquet, Responsable HSE, Groupe Berto.

Reducing fuel consumption and carbon footprint

Although the primary objective of integrating Samsara on-board cameras is to enhance driver safety, this initiative brings other benefits.

The analysis of road events, as well as certain sequences, provides valuable insight into driving behaviour, making it possible to identify training or prevention needs. Thanks to the regular monitoring and training provided by Katalii, driving and eco-driving habits are improving, and fuel savings are also being made.

“We have clearly seen a direct correlation between the good safety results and our fleet's fuel consumption, which has fallen by an average of 1.3 litres per 100 kilometres”.

A long-term partnership

“Together, we're going further: thanks to Samsara's innovative tools and the change management provided by Katalii, this strategic partnership is producing tangible results on the ground. It is with this dynamic in mind that we intend to continue deploying and strengthening our OZA safety policy: Objective Zero Accidents!”, concludes Gregory Moll, IE Project Manager, Katalii.
