27 hours per month saved in administrative work: thanks to the automated video assessment, ALSCO saves around 27 hours per month in manual administrative work and increases the efficiency of fleet management.
Reduction in accident rate and savings of €20,000 through accident investigation: Precise accident reconstruction and safety reports significantly reduce the accident frequency. One costly incident was resolved, saving over €20,000.
455 vehicles equipped with telematics solution: With Samsara, ALSCO can manage and monitor its entire fleet - from cars to 18-tonne trucks - on a single, user-friendly platform.
Since its foundation in 1889 in Lincoln, Nebraska, ALSCO has developed into a leading provider of textile and hygiene services, serving over 17,000 customers at 20 locations in Germany alone. Supported by a fleet of around 455 vehicles and 1,350 employees, ALSCO ensures that workwear, dust control mats and first aid kits are reliably delivered to customers. Long-standing partnerships, for example with Bayer and Ford, are proof of the high quality and trust in the company's services.
In the face of strong competition, ALSCO is focussing on innovation and sustainability in order to secure its lead. The modernisation of the fleet plays a central role in this: the company is currently switching to electric vehicles in order to reduce its carbon footprint and further expand its leading position in the field of sustainable services. ‘Our goal is to continuously become more sustainable and retain customers in the long term,’ explains David Intruglio, Head of National Logistics at ALSCO.
As part of this green transformation, ALSCO is also investing in targeted training on process and change management in order to continuously expand the skills of its employees. This enables the fulfilment of high customer requirements and strengthens long-term customer loyalty through excellent service and the use of innovative technologies.
Before the introduction of Samsara, ALSCO did not have a telematics solution in place, which led to challenges in the efficiency and maintenance of the vehicle fleet. High wear and tear, repair costs and the need for more careful vehicle utilisation were major challenges. Samsara now offers ALSCO a complete solution that not only includes all the necessary functions, but also impresses with its transparent cost structure. ‘We particularly appreciate the transparent and predictable cost structure that Samsara offers us. Unlike other providers, we get an all-inclusive solution that impresses with its intuitive, user-friendly platform,’ explains Intruglio. Thanks to a dedicated contact person and free beta testing of new software, the implementation and customisation of the systems went smoothly.
The Samsara solution was implemented at ALSCO in just 4.5 months. The hardware and dash cams were installed in 235 vehicles, supported by partner workshops. The main focus was on training the employees who work with the telematics solution on a daily basis. Drivers can view their driving histories and safety reports via the Samsara Driver app. ‘Despite initial resistance from the works council and some drivers, we were able to convince our colleagues and successfully integrate the system. Today, our employees benefit from increased safety and improved accident management, which is reflected in a significant reduction in the number of accidents,’ says Intruglio.
The introduction of the Samsara gateways and outward-facing AI dash cams enables ALSCO to manage its fleet more efficiently. By using Samsara to analyse safety reports, for fleet benchmarking and for maintenance schedules, ALSCO has been able to achieve significant efficiency gains. ‘Video analysis is a key element for us to reconstruct accidents more accurately and minimise future risks,’ explains Intruglio.
The use of Samsara has not only changed the daily work routine at ALSCO, but has also set new standards for efficiency and safety. For a single vehicle, video analysis used to take around 5 minutes to download and a further 2 minutes to upload. Extrapolated to 235 vehicles, ALSCO now saves around 27 hours a month in administrative work. In addition to the increase in efficiency, the safety reports and driver coaching tools are also helping to continuously improve driving behaviour. ‘At the start of the introduction, our drivers' ECO scores were between 55 and 75 points; today, almost all branches achieve scores of almost 99 points. This shows how effectively the system is helping to minimise the risk of accidents and increase the efficiency of our fleet,’ emphasises Intruglio.
Thanks to Samsara, ALSCO was able to significantly increase both safety and efficiency. The rapid clarification of accidents led to considerable cost savings. ‘An incident that would have led to high costs without video evidence was quickly resolved thanks to Samsara - this saved us more than 20,000 euros,’ explains Intruglio. In addition, vehicle downtimes have been reduced and maintenance costs have been cut significantly. ‘The data we obtain from the Samsara platform helps us to act proactively and recognise potential problems at an early stage,’ says Intruglio.
With the introduction of Samsara, ALSCO has taken an important step towards the future. The optimised fleet management, improved safety and significant cost savings show that the decision to use Samsara was the right one. ‘We see Samsara as a strategic partner that not only helps us to achieve our current goals, but also supports our long-term vision of a sustainable and successful company,’ summarises Intruglio. For other companies, ALSCO is an example of how the integration of telematics solutions not only increases competitiveness, but can also lead to sustainable business development.
