The Challenge

Inaccurate HOS data impacted their CSA score and put their reputation at risk

JoyRide Logistics, a regional carrier based in Chandler, Arizona, operates a fleet of 250 trucks and over 300 trailers with a strong commitment to driver retention and operational excellence. Leveraging technology to enhance the driver experience and safety standards, JoyRide had already adopted Samsara AI Dash Cams and Vehicle Telematics.

However, when inconsistencies in Hours of Service (HOS) data from a legacy ELD provider were identified, JoyRide immediately took proactive steps to resolve the issue. With driver safety and compliance at the core of its operations, the company sought a more integrated, accurate, and reliable HOS solution. This move was driven by their continued commitment to maintaining a strong CSA score, earning customer trust, and ensuring a safe and compliant fleet environment.

THE SOLUTION

A fully-integrated platform to centralize fleet operations

To create a more unified driver experience, JoyRide transitioned their ELD point solution over to Samsara—completing installation in just over one month. Now, all aspects of their fleet, from HOS to safety to fuel, are managed in one location. 

Using Samsara as their single source of truth, JoyRide feeds all fleet and safety data into an in-house app via Samsara’s open API. With the app, drivers have transparency into their performance at any given time as well as opportunities for coaching and upskilling. To further consolidate their operations, JoyRide brought several other workflows to Samsara including DVIRs, fuel purchasing, and incident review.

JoyRide went from using several point solutions to fully integrating their operations with Samsara, enabling innovation and fleetwide safety and efficiency gains. With Samsara’s ELD solution, they immediately gained accurate HOS data, leading to an improved CSA score. "We experienced benefits right away—Samsara is very user-friendly," said Alma Delic, Assistant Safety Director. 

By using Samsara data to power their driver retention program and proprietary app, Joyride Logistics achieved a 28% increase in driver retention within one year. "We needed to monitor and award driver behavior based on concrete numbers, Samsara takes it to a whole new level," said Kemal Balihodžić, Vice President of Business Development. The creation of their app is part of JoyRide’s culture of providing a best-in-class employee experience—by enabling drivers with this technology, they maintain a competitive edge in a tight labor market. 

Beyond feeding safety data to their app, Samsara AI Dash Cams provide video evidence when incidents occur, exonerating drivers and protecting the company from false claims.

Additionally, JoyRide reduced fuel and maintenance spending with Samsara’s comprehensive reporting. "We used fuel purchase data to understand where and when drivers were filling up. Today, we pre-approve gas stations to control spending and train our drivers on fuel purchasing best practices,” said Balihodžić. Samsara's DVIRs streamlined their maintenance program and enabled proactive work, saving money on costly emergency repairs. The ability to include photos in DVIRs has been a game changer—now, drivers simply take a photo of the issue so mechanics have context ahead of the vehicle arriving at the shop for maintenance.
