Scaling sustainable operations in a competitive market

Founded in 2016, WeFlex set out to revolutionise the ride-hailing industry by providing flexible rentals to private hire drivers. In 2020, WeFlex pledged to become 100% electric, in alignment with Uber’s 2025 pledge and TfL’s desire to make London a cleaner city, As the company grew from its London roots to serving customers across the UK, it faced significant challenges in managing its expanding fleet efficiently while maintaining its commitment to sustainability.

The company needed a holistic solution to monitor and optimise its growing EV fleet across multiple locations, ensure driver safety, mitigate insurance costs, and accurately measure and report on its environmental impact to stakeholders and investors. With ambitious plans to achieve a 100% electric fleet by 2025, WeFlex also required a technology partner that could meet the unique needs of an EV-focused business.

Unparalleled insight into operations

WeFlex found its answer in Samsara's cutting-edge fleet management technology. By implementing Samsara's Vehicle Telematics and AI Dash Cams across its entire fleet, WeFlex gained unprecedented visibility into its operations and the tools to drive sustainable growth.

Samsara's advanced EV telematics provide real-time monitoring of vehicle location, mileage, and battery health, allowing WeFlex to optimise fleet utilisation and plan for maintenance needs proactively.

The AI-powered dash cams offer 360-degree video capture, providing critical data for managing driver safety, challenging third-party claims, and cutting insurance costs. Video-based safety technology has already helped WeFlex exonerate over 30 drivers from false claims. For instance, when third parties claimed accidents were caused by objects or animals, Samsara's video evidence proved otherwise, saving WeFlex from costly settlements and protecting driver reputations.

Comprehensive reporting capabilities deliver detailed insights into fleet performance, sustainability metrics, and driver behaviour, enabling data-driven decision-making and stakeholder communication. Moreover, Samsara's platform seamlessly integrates with WeFlex's existing software ecosystem to streamline operations and enhance overall efficiency.

"Samsara's user interface is miles ahead of our previous solution," said Williamson. "The product is intuitive, and it gives us the detailed EV-specific data we need to manage our fleet effectively."

Accelerating sustainability while driving business growth

By leveraging Samsara’s integrated technologies, WeFlex has achieved remarkable results in both sustainability and operational efficiency. The company has successfully transitioned 98% of its 2,500+ vehicle fleet to electric, putting it on track to reach its goal of a 100% EV fleet by 2025. This rapid adoption has led to a massive environmental impact, preventing the emission of over 15,000tons of CO2 over 150 million electric miles.

Armed with precise sustainability metrics and operational insights, WeFlex can accurately measure and demonstrate its ESG initiatives to stakeholders, supporting the company's position as a leader in sustainable transportation.

"Samsara lets us grow more efficiently, which ultimately helps us put more electric vehicles on the road," said Williamson. "It's not just about managing our current fleet – it's about scaling our impact and driving millions more electric miles."

WeFlex is also reshaping its approach to driver management through Samsara's data capabilities. With a dedicated internal insurance team coming aboard, WeFlex plans to implement a comprehensive driver scoring system that will incentivise safer driving practices across the fleet. From here, targeted training programs will be implemented to focus on crucial areas like proper EV charging procedures and speed management, helping optimise both fleet operations and safety standards.

As WeFlex continues to expand, the insights provided by Samsara are proving invaluable. The company can now make data-driven decisions in every aspect of its operations to maximise efficiency, safety and environmental impact. With Samsara at its core, WeFlex is well-positioned to continue its rapid growth – all while staying true to its mission of realising sustainable transport.
