PROBLEM

Otto Car is London’s largest provider of private hire cars, supporting more than 8,000 rideshare drivers with everything from licensing to claims advice to driver coaching. As an official partner of Uber, Free Now, and Bolt, lending PCO cars to private hire drivers across the country, safety is paramount to Otto Car. However, unreliable telematics and limited data meant it could not accurately monitor driver safety and offer effective driver coaching to improve it.

HOW THEY SOLVED IT

Implementing Samsara’s AI-powered, dual-facing dash cams and tracking technology, Otto Car is now able to pick up dangerous driving and analyse broader patterns of driver behaviour. Its driver development team is empowered to identify high-risk drivers and take appropriate action. The Samsara technology has also brought the opportunity to develop Otto Car’s driver coaching programme, combining camera footage with tracking data to help drivers assess their own performance. In addition, voice coaching, driver gamification, and driver alerts are used to educate drivers on the road, supporting them to drive more safely on their own.

RESULTS

Otto Car started with Samsara’s solutions in 50 cars and has since implemented the AI Dash Cams, tracking technology, and driver coaching platform in more than 1,900 vehicles. Thanks to actionable data delivered in one integrated solution, Otto Car has developed a proactive driver safety programme that protects its drivers, their passengers, and other road users. The driver development team can proactively intervene to correct unsafe driving on an individual basis, while its free driver coaching programme is increasing driver loyalty and helping to capture prospective customers.
