"The implementation of Samsara has taken our fleet management to a whole new level. Real-time tracking and comprehensive analysis of driving behavior have not only enhanced driver safety but also optimised the overall control and transparency of our fleet. Additionally, we have significantly reduced administrative tasks, greatly improving office efficiency, particularly through the use of Driver ID tokens,” Matthias Bunk, Managing Director of the EBD Group.

EBD began in 1987 as "Essener Briefdienst" (Essen Mail Service) and quickly evolved into a leading provider in regional postal delivery. Over the years, the company continuously expanded its service portfolio, becoming a comprehensive logistics and last-mile delivery provider. Today, as part of the EBD Group, the company serves numerous clients in North Rhine-Westphalia and the entire Rhine-Ruhr area. With a fleet of over 140 vehicles, EBD handles a wide variety of assignments – from express deliveries to Europe-wide logistics.
In an industry heavily shaped by increasing demands and growing competition, EBD faced the challenge of optimising fleet efficiency and safety. Digitalising fleet management proved to be a decisive factor for the company's long-term competitiveness.
As the fleet grew and business expanded, EBD encountered new challenges: the decentralised structure of the fleet and the rising number of accidents and damages required a strategic realignment in fleet management. The previous GPS-based tracking solution could only display the current location of vehicles and offer geofencing functions. However, AI dashcams and accelerometers, necessary for proactive accident prevention, were missing. As a result, incidents could not be effectively analysed or prevented, leading to a high damage rate. Damages alone incurred annual costs of up to 1.3 million euros, making the need for action clear.
After an intensive market analysis and evaluation of various providers, EBD chose Samsara as its strategic partner for fleet management digitalisation in 2022. Samsara impressed not only with its advanced technology but also with its ability to continuously develop innovative solutions tailored to EBD’s specific requirements. "Nowadays, no company can afford to rely on outdated systems. Samsara gave us the tools to operate our fleet more efficiently and safely while increasing transparency in driver behavior," explains Matthias Bunk, Managing Director of the EBD Group. The introduction of the Samsara solution enabled EBD to reduce damage rates by an impressive 30% while significantly increasing fleet efficiency and safety.
Samsara’s implementation at EBD was extensive: a total of 130 Samsara vehicle gateways, including AI dashcams, were installed to ensure seamless monitoring and analysis of vehicle activities. In addition, 55 engine immobilisers were integrated, significantly improving theft protection. Around 80 drivers were equipped with Driver ID tokens, making manual logbook management obsolete. Real-time tracking, combined with technical and safety alerts, enabled precise monitoring of driving behavior and rapid responses to potential hazards.
