At Samsara, we see firsthand how customers use our platform to transform their operations for greater sustainability. While their operations and goals vary, one constant is the critical role of data in making meaningful progress. Similarly, we use a data-driven approach to advance our sustainability goals, including net-zero emissions by 2040.
Today, we’re excited to announce a new milestone in our sustainability journey. Samsara has achieved validation of its science-based emissions reduction targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The SBTi defines and promotes best practices in science-based target setting. Targets are considered science-based only if they align with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Samsara completed a rigorous evaluation with the SBTi to secure validation of our emissions-reduction plans, which include:
Overall Net-Zero Target: Achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the value chain by FY2041.
Near-Term Targets: Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 54.6% by FY2034 from a FY2023 base year. Reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions 61.1% per million USD value added within the same timeframe.
Long-Term Targets: Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by FY2041 from a FY2023 base year. Reduce scope 3 GHG emissions 97% per million USD value added within the same timeframe.
Reaching ambitious sustainability goals requires transparency and accountability. Samsara will publicly report annual progress against validated targets as specified by SBTi Criteria. Behind the progress measured in each report is the dedication of our global team.
There are several key ways we’re moving our sustainability efforts forward. For example, our hardware sustainability working group determines which supply chain initiatives to prioritize to make the most impact. Through our improvements in hardware design and packaging, efficient routing and transport of our products, and increasing the use of renewable energy at our suppliers’ facilities, we can continue to make tangible progress on our goals.
Samsara is also enabling the latest in climate solutions. Our climate innovation working group identifies high-impact climate-forward initiatives to invest in, including renewable energy purchases and carbon removal technologies. Notable contributions include our participation in Frontier, an organization focused on accelerating the development and availability of carbon removal technologies, and the Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance, which promotes net-zero aviation through investments in sustainable aviation fuel.
These are just a few examples of Samsara’s dedication to delivering on our commitments. Progress will require relentless innovation and we’re excited to come together as a team to reach our goals and do our part in building a more sustainable world.
