General Counsel
Today marks the release of Samsara’s inaugural Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report. From the products we build to how we run our day-to-day operations, we’ve been running Samsara in ways that improve the world since our inception. Our guiding principles of transparency and accountability, data-driven strategies, and empowering our people and communities are at the forefront of everything we do.
Our biggest impact comes from building technology solutions that improve the world’s operations with better data. We help solve the pressing problems customers have. Samsara’s Connected Operations Cloud gives customers the ability to drive safer operations, increase business efficiency, and advance sustainability initiatives while improving the lives of their employees and stakeholders.
At one of our customer summits, a leader from a large transportation company explained to me how they were using our platform to create safer and more efficient workflows to attract and retain drivers—the biggest challenge their business faced. Whether it’s GP Transco saving 205,000 gallons of fuel, or Bragg Companies reducing driver accidents by 43%, it’s always inspiring to hear about the impact Samsara is having on people and their businesses. These customer outcomes are what drives us to continually raise the bar on our platform development.
We are also committed to doing our own part. In the same way we help our customers, we’re using data to develop actionable business insights to improve our own operations. Over two years ago, we started tracking our carbon footprint and made investments to remove and offset our emissions to achieve carbon neutrality. We invested in several innovative carbon offset projects to help ensure that our customers can immediately rely on a carbon-neutral Connected Operations Cloud to help better meet their own sustainability goals. Last year, we published our inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) report, tracking our demographic data and inclusion-focused initiatives. Now, this ESG report continues our commitment to transparency by outlining year-over-year progress toward our ESG initiatives.
As detailed in the report, Samsara is developing a strategy for near- and long-term company-wide emission reductions, in line with SBTi, to achieve net-zero emissions. We’ll continue to work closely with SBTi to apply the latest climate science to set a clearly defined path toward net-zero emissions by 2040. That’s 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement.
Samsarians are empowered to be a force for good, both on the job, and in their communities. We rely on our employees to bring their diverse and authentic voices to all problems. Without their unique experiences and perspectives, we cannot develop the creative solutions necessary to build a transformative company. Ensuring that employees from all backgrounds feel a sense of belonging and ownership is table stakes to achieving our mission.
Finally, Samsara has an obligation to develop our products responsibly and in a way that adheres to our core value of building for the long term. This requires continuous and critical consideration of how the technology we design affects the environment, our customers, and society at large.
This year’s ESG report marks our next step in transparency. Improving sustainability, making a positive social impact, and running our company with integrity will continue to guide our path forward. We will hold ourselves accountable for our actions, and drive change in the world of physical operations. By working together with our customers, we can reduce the environmental impact of operations and improve the lives of people worldwide. We invite you to share this journey with us.
