Samsara's Winter 2025 product updates: Smarter AI, stronger safety, greater efficiency

This winter, Samsara continued to invest in innovations that help organizations operate safer, smarter, and more efficiently. Over the past few months, we’ve introduced new features and enhancements across Samsara to help organizations reduce risk, simplify maintenance, strengthen compliance, and control fuel costs.

Here’s a look at what’s new:

Safety

• Samsara Coach: Customizable AI avatars can now deliver personalized driver coaching at scale without adding manager workload. Drivers receive weekly safety summaries (including positive reinforcement!) through the Driver App or via SMS. For high-severity risks such as persistent drowsiness, Samsara Coach can initiate a two-way, in-cab audio conversation to prompt immediate corrective action. 

• Weather-Based Safety Settings: Automatically adjust safety alert thresholds when vehicles enter hazardous weather conditions—for example, when the camera detects a snowstorm, it increases and alerts on the driver’s minimum following distance. Standard settings are restored once the vehicle exits the affected area.

• Dual AI Multicam Hubs: Expand visibility around the vehicle with support for up to 8 AI-powered camera streams (or 10 when paired with Samsara’s Dual-Facing AI Dash Cam). This configuration provides a 360-degree view to help eliminate blind spots and support faster incident investigation.

• Railroad Crossing Violation Detection: When a vehicle like a school bus or hazmat truck is required to stop at railroad crossings, this detection automatically senses the conditions and sends alerts. 

Efficiency

• Vendor Management in Connected Maintenance: Centralize maintenance vendor information and associate vendors with Work Orders built directly into the Samsara platform. Vendor details can also be automatically matched during invoice scans to streamline maintenance workflows and improve record-keeping.

• AI Invoice Scanning: Reduce manual data entry by extracting labor, parts, and line-item details from PDF invoices and then automatically populating Work Orders. This improves accuracy and provides clearer visibility into maintenance costs.

• Custom Reports with Samsara Assistant: Build custom reports in seconds using natural language. Generate driver scorecards, mileage comparisons, utilization reports, daily summaries, and more without manual report configuration.

Compliance

• DVIR 2.0: Make inspections faster and more accurate with voice transcription and automated validity checks. Drivers are guided to capture clear, relevant photos. Submission time and location are recorded automatically to reduce administrative work.

• Commercial Navigation Profiles: Assign vehicle-specific navigation profiles based on weight, height, and road restrictions. This helps drivers avoid restricted routes and maintain compliance with local regulations.

• Canada Data Center: Ensure compliance with local data sovereignty needswhile maintaining full access to the Samsara platform.

Fuel and energy

• Fuel Purchases Report: Verify fuel spend by cross-referencing fuel card transactions with GPS data. Investigate exceptions, confirm purchases, and identify savings opportunities with built-in fuel price insights.

• Idling Insights: Add context to driver coaching with visibility into where vehicles idle, how long idling occurs, and estimated fuel waste. Use these insights to identify trends, address excessive idling, and reduce unnecessary fuel consumption.

• Unproductive Idling Rules: Configure unproductive idling rules to allow longer idle times in extreme cold conditions without negatively affecting driver scores. Enable in-cab audio alerts to provide real-time feedback while ensuring policies remain practical during harsh weather.

• Preferred Vendor Navigation: Guide drivers to company-approved fuel locations with real-time pricing displayed directly within Commercial Navigation.
